Petal it is time to move forward together on June 1st and make a difference. I respectfully ask for your vote during this run-off to serve as your Alderman at Large. I ask for you to make a deliberate choice for new Petal Transparency, Accountability, and Progress during these challenging times. I choose Petal as my home and community to make a difference; now you can choose to make a difference by voting for me as your Alderman. Drew works for You!!
BACKGROUND TO MY DECISION TO RUN FOR THE POSITION:
With the announcement by COL William King to resign his position as Petal Alderman at Large so he may retire and focus on family after a tremendous and impactful public service career spanning over three decades as a Military Officer, Petal Police Officer, and Alderman, I plan to compete for the vacant position in the upcoming March special election to finish his term.
Why do I want the job? I believe if you want to see change, you step up and volunteer. I have been blessed and given grace. I believe this is where I am needed now.
Using William as a great example, I want to serve the citizens of Petal. I want to build upon Petal past success by building relationships to advance Petal's goals, holding ourselves accountable as public servants to the taxpayers, and working full time as your Alderman.
Since I am a fully retired after serving 21 years on active duty as an Engineer Officer, I will be focused on building and improving Petal without distractions, obligations, or personal hidden agendas. Petal is our home and that's why I am getting involved.
I am a fiscally-focused conservative that believes that government exists to serve and protect the citizens of this great nation and that serving as a politician shouldn't be a career choice but a temporary duty, honor, and privilege. A leader must have integrity and willing to set the example.
While I am not a native Petal resident, we moved here in 2010 when I was assigned to command an active duty Engineer Training Battalion at Camp Shelby. I am blessed and honored to marry my high school sweetheart, Jodie, in 1993 and we have two sons, Benjamin and Joseph. They are the reason we stayed here in Petal and took advantage of the education provided by the Petal School district.
Over the past ten years here in Petal, I've served as a Camp Shelby Liaison to Petal, Petal Children's Task Force Board member, Board of Trustee Chairman at our church, and YMCA Board Member while supporting many different aspects of our Petal schools and organizations.
My education and training over the years include leading, planning, managing, and organization skills that cover the spectrum from small events to large scale operations and their respective budgets. While serving in my career, I've built a foundational knowledge and skill set in deliberate planning, construction, contracting, quality control, OSHA, safety regulations, environmental regulations, maintenance, and Department of Public Work operations.
